Answering the Call When Children Need Us Most

Global Fund for Kids is committed to supporting children and families by addressing basic needs that directly impact learning, health, and well-being. During the most recent holiday season, the organization donated nearly $10,000 to combat childhood hunger by replenishing food pantries in seven Rhode Island schools. These funds were distributed directly to schools, ensuring immediate access to groceries for students and their families.

Families can access food pantry support at Central High School, E-Cubed Academy, Veazie Street Elementary School, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School, A-Venture Academy, Nathanael Greene Middle School in Providence, and Thornton Elementary School in Johnston. By meeting families where they are, Global Fund for Kids helps reduce food insecurity and supports children’s ability to thrive academically and emotionally.

At Central High School, the impact of this support was deeply felt. As Ms. Renee Walker, Assistant Principal, shared:
“Central Cares cannot do the work alone. We are so grateful to Global Fund to End Childhood Hunger and Poverty for their more than generous donation. This support helped bring Thanksgiving dinners to families in the Central High School community.”

Beyond Rhode Island, Global Fund for Kids extends its reach internationally. The organization currently supports two schools in Kingston, Jamaica, funding free breakfast and lunch programs for children whose families are unable to afford school meals. These daily meals are essential to students’ health, attendance, and academic success.

When Hurricane Melissa, the worst hurricane ever reported to make landfall in Jamaica, devastated communities across the island, Global Fund for Kids responded swiftly. Through the generosity of donors and partnerships with the Jamaica Association of Rhode Island, the Church of God of Prophecy, Ebenezer Baptist Church, and Wanskuck Library, the organization collected non-perishable food, hygiene supplies, toiletries, and clothing for families most impacted. As part of ongoing recovery efforts, four jumbo water barrels have been shipped to assist communities with access to clean water.

Global Fund for Kids remains steadfast in its mission to support children by meeting essential needs, strengthening communities, and responding with compassion in times of crisis.

We wholeheartedly thank all of our donors and with their continued support, the organization aims to expand its reach by adding more schools in the coming year—ensuring that even more children and families have consistent access to nutritious food and critical resources.

Contributions of any size help make this work possible and allow Global Fund for Kids to deepen its impact locally and globally.

Our 4th Annual Walk to End Global Childhood Hunger and Poverty on August 17th was a tremendous success, thanks to the incredible support of our community. This annual event is more than just a walk; it’s a powerful demonstration of solidarity and a crucial strategy in our ongoing battle against childhood hunger and poverty. It’s also our commitment to ensuring that all of our students thrive. The figures are sobering: in the United States, 74 million children are living in poverty, with 1 in 6 facing severe hardship, as reported by the Children’s Defense Fund. Globally, the situation is even more alarming, with 385 million children trapped in poverty. Here in America, and with the recent expiration of the Earned Income Tax Credit, child poverty has doubled in 2022 and the situation is only getting worse. The consequences of childhood hunger and poverty are profound and far-reaching. Hungry children encounter significant academic, behavioral, and social challenges, which can hinder their development and future prospects. These adverse childhood experiences leave lasting impacts, making our mission to address these issues even more critical. Since our inception, we have worked tirelessly to make a difference. We are proud to support children in Haiti, Jamaica, Liberia, and across the United States, collaborating with schools and organizations that align with our values to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry. We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who participated in this year’s walk. Your presence, your steps, and your contributions are vital to our cause. To those who support us through one-time or monthly donations, your generosity is the driving force behind our efforts. Thanks to your commitment, we are thrilled to announce that for the 2024-2025 period, we will once again be replenishing and supporting food pantries in Providence Public Schools, Johnston Public Schools, and numerous schools worldwide. Your support truly makes a difference in the lives of countless children. Together, we are making strides towards a future where every child has access to the nourishment they need to thrive. Thank you for your unwavering dedication and for walking alongside us in this vital mission.
